Yogi acknowledges pre-2017 agrarian crisis, citing debt-driven farmer suicides

In a recent statement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath revealed that since his government took charge in 2017, loans for a staggering 86 lakh farmers in the state have been waived. According to the Chief Minister, this proactive measure aimed to address the dire situation where mounting debts had previously driven farmers to tragic outcomes like suicide.

Revitalizing Agriculture and Sugar Mills operation

Adityanath highlighted the transformative changes brought about in the agricultural sector. Before 2017, the lack of essential resources like electricity, fertilizers, and irrigation hindered farming activities. The Chief Minister also emphasized the revival of sugar mills, with his administration resurrecting around 110 non-functional mills. The government's efforts included settling pending payments to sugarcane farmers dating back to 2010, ensuring the functioning of 120 sugar mills.

Sugarcane farmers rejoice over SAP increase

Expressing gratitude, sugarcane farmers lauded the recent decision to raise the State-Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane by ₹20 per quintal. Adityanath mentioned that this increase, coinciding with the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, was a symbolic gift to farmers and aligned with the tradition of offering to the deity 'Annapurna' before religious celebrations.

The Chief Minister encouraged farmers to organize 'bhandara' events, participate in devotional singing in temples, and engage in various celebratory activities leading up to the historic consecration ceremony of Lord Ram on January 22. Overall, the farmers expressed their appreciation for the government's initiatives, including increased SAP and significant recruitment in the UP Police, positively impacting the state's youth.
